Bumble Bee Foods was founded by a handful of dedicated canners in 1899. Today, Bumble Bee® employs over 2,000 hard working men and women and is an international company selling canned tuna, salmon, sardines and a variety of specialty seafood products in the U.S. under the Bumble Bee®, Brunswick®, Beach Cliff® and Snow’s® brands; and in Canada under the Clover Leaf® brand name. The Company is committed to sustainability and actively supports a science-based approach to responsible fishery harvesting and management practices.

Bumble Bee® has tuna canning facilities in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; and Santa Fe Springs, Ca. Over the years, Bumble Bee® has transformed its plants from labor intensive production lines to automated lines. By keeping up with today's technology, Bumble Bee® is able to provide a quality product at a competitive price. When consumers see the Bumble Bee® brand name, they can be assured it means premium quality seafood.

Quality is not all the Bumble Bee® brand name stands for. Bumble Bee® also stands for variety. The company markets a diverse portfolio of protein products in a variety of packaging configurations to meet the flavor and product needs of consumers. From traditional canned tuna products to value added meal solutions, Bumble Bee® proudly offers a spectrum of healthy, affordable protein solutions.

Key Dates in Company History:

1899 - A group of 7 canners in Astoria, Oregon banded together as Columbia River Packers Association, CRPA. Their goal was to fish and process salmon successfully.

1900 - In order for the Association to meet its goals they purchased several sailing ships and began building a cannery on Alaska’s Bristol Bay.

1910 - First appearance of the Bumble Bee® Brand, one of the hundreds of CRPA marketed labels. A new resource, albacore tuna is discovered in seasonal abundance off the Oregon coast.

1920 - Columbia River Packers Association began expanding its cannery in Astoria to capitalize on this new resource of albacore.

1930 - 1940 Albacore surpassed salmon as the company’s principal product. CRPA's hard work and dedication was paying off. The association was becoming a recognized leader in the seafood industry.

1950 - CRPA had developed the Bumble Bee® brand into one of the most respected premium labels for canned seafood. Castle & Cooke, a prominent Hawaii based seafood company, recognized Bumble Bee® as a major force in the industry. By the end of the decade, Castle and Cooke had acquired 61% ownership of CRPA.

1960 - The first Bumble Bee Seafoods, Inc. was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary of Castle & Cook. Later Bumble Bee® merged into the parent company as an operating division.

1970s - A major purchase of a fleet of large tuna seiners was made in 1975. In 1977 Bumble Bee® acquired a tuna cannery in Puerto Rico, and a fishing base operation in Ecuador. At the end of the decade the company continued its expansion program with the purchase of Sun Harbor Industry cannery in San Diego.

1980s - Bumble Bee® suspended canning operations in Astoria, where it all began. Starting in 1984 Bumble Bee® underwent a series of ownership changes.

1990s - In 1997 Bumble Bee® was sold to International Home Foods Inc, (IHF). IHF also acquired Orleans Seafoods, Inc. in 1997 which allowed Bumble Bee® to launch a new line of "Specialty Products." This new line included: shrimp; oysters; clams; smoked scallops; anchovies and more.

1999 - Bumble Bee® continued to expand with the purchase of a Canadian Company, BC Packers, which provided the leading brand of tuna and salmon in Canada, Clover Leaf® (www.cloverleaf.ca). Bumble Bee® also began distributing the nations leading brand of high-quality packed Sardines, King Oscar® (www.kingoscar.com)

2000 - Bumble Bee® is acquired by ConAgra Foods.

2003 - Bumble Bee® becomes Bumble Bee Seafoods, LLC.

2004 - Bumble Bee Seafoods, LLC combines its business with Connors Bros. Income Fund to become the largest branded seafood company in North America.

2005 - Bumble Bee® announces name change to Bumble Bee Foods, LLC to reflect its business encompassing seafoods and other meats categories.

2008 - Bumble Bee Foods returns to a privately held company after being purchased by an affiliate of Centre Partners Management LLC; a leading private equity firm with a middle market focus.
